When the mainstream media this week began to turn against black-clad Antifa members, it wasn’t immediately clear what had prompted the fake-news outlets to condemn the anti-Trump movement. However, they may have been aware that the truth was about to come out.
Indeed, confidential documents and interviews recently obtained by Politico show that federal authorities began contacting state and local officials in early 2016 to inform them that left-wing extremists calling themselves Antifa behaved like terrorists and that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) considered their actions “domestic terrorist violence.”
Some recent FBI and DHS internal reports also indicate that some of the Antifa groups are being closely monitored because their “conduct [is] deemed potentially suspicious and indicative of terrorist activity.” The agencies however recognize that they still know very little about the organization.
Authorities also noted that the leftist group gained prominence toward the beginning of the Trump campaign.
“It was in that period [at the start of the Trump campaign] that we really became aware of them,” according to a senior law enforcement official keeping track of the group.
“These antifa guys were showing up with weapons, shields and bike helmets and just beating the shit out of people. […] They’re using Molotov cocktails, they’re starting fires, they’re throwing bombs and smashing windows,” the official added.
Following Clinton’s defeat on November 8, the group turned its attention to Mr. Trump’s supporters especially those who supported his immigration policies and those who opposed the removal of monuments to the Confederacy. But Antifa did not only target candidate Trump or his supporters.
A confidential dossier put together by the FBI and the DHS reveals that from the spring of 2016, these “anarchist extremists” were behind regular violence at public rallies, attacks on law-enforcement agents as well as on government and political institutions.
The confidential documents also reveal that some Antifa members even travel abroad to receive training from other anarchist groups, including from Turkey-based organizations currently fighting the Islamic State.
As we already knew, President Trump was right all along when he insisted that left-wing groups were also responsible for instigating some of the violence during the Charlottesville rally on August 12.
Now let’s see if the media apologize and acknowledge that his judgment was, once again, spot on.Share
